Nimbochromis venustus - 1.25-2.25 inches
Scientific Name: Nimbochromis venustus called by some the Giraffe Cichlid. This Fish hunts small cichlids by hiding slightly in the sand when it spots small juvenile cichlids. There it remains motionless until the curious prey is within reach. This aggressive piscivore reaches a maximum size of 10 inches. This fish is commonly included in the Hap and Standard mixes featured on this site. A tank size of 55 gallon and larger is recommended with a temp of 78 to 82 degrees and an aquarium or cichlid salt at the rate of 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons is also helpful. We have fed our venustus the All Purpose Fish Food Formula in our Florida Facility for over a year. Our cichlids are noticeably more active, grow quicker, have improved color, and we have all but eliminated bloat in even the most sensitive species, including tropheus. We have fed it to New World and African cichlids, assorted Livebearers, Discus, Loaches, Catfish, Danios, Tetras, Australian Rainbows, and virtually any fish that will eat a prepared food.
