DAMSEL GARIBALDI SMALL Hypsypops rubicundus Common Names: Garibaldi, Garibaldi Damselfish Description: The Damsel Garibaldi is known to be one of the largest fish in the damsel family and one of the longest lived fish. The Juvenile Garibaldi are not as bright in color and lose their spots as they get older. They can live up to 25 years. They can also be found in the off the coast of the Eastern Central Pacific Ocean. The Damsel Garibaldi is yellow-orange in color with blue spots as juveniles. The adult fish is more orange in color. An interesting and neat fact is the Damsel Garibaldi gets its name from the 19th century Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi. When he went to battle he would wear a bright red/orange shirt. Recommended Tank Size: The minimum tank the Damsel Garibaldi requires is 100 gallons filled with live rock. They like to use the rocks to set up their territory and will defend it. If there is more than one Damsel Garibaldi in the tank it is best to have over 100 gallons due to its size and they are very active swimmers.
