Angel Singapore Small Chaetodontoplus mesoleucus Common Name: Singapore Angel, Vermiculated Angel Description: The Singapore Angel is often compared to the butterflyfish based on its body strucure. The fish has blue lips and its yellow nose abruptly changes to a black vertical band, covering the eyes, creating that of a mask. The mask is bordered by another thin vertical band of yellow followed by a wider vertical band of white. The body of the fish is generally black and its dorsal and anal fins are outlined in sapphire-blue with the caudal either being usually yellow or sometimes gray. The Singapore Angel may grow up to 7 inches in size. Recommended Tank Size: The Singapore Angel requires a tank able to hold at least 55 gallons. In order to provide an optimal living environment for the Singapore Angel, the tank should be decorated with live rock for grazing. The Singapore Angel is very shy but if it is allowed many hiding places, the fish will eventually become acclimated to its new home. The temperature of the water should be between 72 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit with a pH level of at least 8.1 - 8. 4. The Singapore Angelfish does get along with other pleasant tank mates but should not be placed in an aquarium with other large angelfish. Food & Diet: The Singapore Angel is considered an omnivore. These fish can be fed a varied diet consisting of large chunks of meaty foods, greens, pellets, and flakes. As far as meaty foods, the Singapore Angel can eat kirll, raw table shrimp, mussels, clams, and squid. This diet should occasionally be supplemented with spirulina and a sponge fortified formula specified for angelfish. Level of Care: Difficult Reef Compatibility: Not reef compatible, snips at stony corals and clam mantels.
