ANTHIAS PURPLE QUEEN MEDIUM Pseudanthias pascalus Common Names: Yellow striped Fairy Basslet, Amethyst Anthias, or the Sailfin Anthias Description: Anthias Purple Queen can be found in the Pacific Ocean from Bali and the Ryukyu Islands to the Tuamoto Islands, north to southern Japan, and south to Australia and New Caledonia. They are more common near oceanic islands than continental reefs. The Anthias Purple Queen is the most recognizable fish out of the Anthias group. The Anthias Purple Queen looks just like the name implies. These fish have a purple body with a yellow to orange stripe that runs along the top of the fish. Female Anthias Purple Queens are usually lighter, reddish, with a red or orange like stripe starting from the eye to the gill opening. The males differ from the females in developing a more pointed snout and bright red on their dorsal fins. Recommended Tank Size: It is recommended to keep a tank that is a minimal of 125 gallons. These fish are kept best in groups, as with other fish in the Anthias group. It is best to keep one male for several females, preferably five or more. Anthias Purple Queen is a very active fish and can be found swimming in an aquarium with adequate room. At the same time these fish like to hide or rest behind live rocks. The Anthias Purple Queen also appreciates a high flow environment with plenty of swimming room and a clean, well oxygenated water, along with plenty of water movement. Food and Diet: The Anthias Purple Queen feeds on zooplankton such as copepods and other planktonic crustaceans or crustacean larvae and fish eggs; mysid shrimp; vitamin-enriched brine shrimp and other meaty foods. These fish needs to be fed vitamin enriched foods to not loose coloration. They need to be fed at least three times a day. Level of Care: Moderate Reef Compatibility: Reef Aquarium Compatibility
