Scientific Name: Melanochromis parallelus also called the black and white auratus. This fish juveniles and female fish have a white belly, with a broad black stripe that extends through the eye and back to the caudal fin. Above this marking is another white stripe, which runs below another black stripe. The dorsal fin is black in color, as are the anal and pelvic fins. The male has a black body with three to four blue stripes. All the fins are black. This fish is found in the Standard mix sold on this site. This omnivore thrives on a diet of Red Zebra Stampede and supplemented with the Zebra Pasture or Hippocampus Green to provide the spirulina and plant material so vital for mbuna health. They appreciate the addition of a quality aquarium or Cichlid Salt at the rate of 1 teaspoon per gallon of water.
