BASSLET CHALK MEDIUM Serranus turtugarum Common Names: Chalk Bass Description: The Basslet Chalk can be found swimming in the Caribbean from the Western. This Western Atlantic native lives in waters ranging from Southern Florida to the reefs of the Caribbean. The color of the Basslet Chalk is unique in itself with large eyes, colored in a light purple with bright blue to orange saddle bands along its back. Floating in place and hovering near the bottom adds to its uniqueness. Recommended Tank Size: It is recommended that there is one single Basslet Chalk in a smaller aquarium or more in a larger aquarium. Regardless of how many you have they need to be introduced at the same time. The Basslet Chalk may be small in nature they will protect their hiding place when they feel threaten. Having a minimum of a 30 gallon tank is adequate for keeping one, but if keeping more it is ideal to have at least a 100 gallon aquarium. The aquarium should be filled with numerous of hiding places. Food and Diet: As a carnivore, the Basslet Chalk will do well on a diet of meaty fare including marine fish, crustacean flesh, mysis shrimp, and quality frozen preparations.
