Description: The Japanese Swallowtail Angel may also be called the Zebra Angel, the Blackspot Angel, and the Swallowtail Angel. The Japanese Swallowtail Angel is one of the few angelfish that display differences between its males and females. The female Japanese Swallowtail Angel is yellow dorsally and light blue ventrally while the caudal fin is marine-blue highlighted by dark, blue-black edging on its top and bottom. The male Japanese Swallowtail Angel is pale yellow in color with multiple thin, dark, vertical stripes.
Recommended Tank Size: A Japanese Swallowtail Angel can be housed in a 50 - 100 gallon tank but remember the bigger the tank, the more space the Japanese Swallowtail Angel will have to swim around. Keep the water quality in the tank very high with the temperature at approximately 72 - 78 degrees Fahrenheit and a pH level of about 8.1 - 8.4.
Food & Diet: The Japanese Swallowtail Angel is an omnivore. It is important to feed this angelfish all kinds of live, frozen, and prepared formula foods. It is best to feed it small amounts of several times a day. This fish needs a varied diet consisting of large chunks of meaty foods like krill, raw table shrimp, squid, clam, and mussels. The diet may also include spirulina and a sponge fortified formula specifically for angelfish.
