Scientific Name: Pseudotropheus crabro commonly called the Bumble Bee cichlid. This omnivore is an aggressive dimorphic mouthbrooder that changes colors from the yellow with black bars to a solid black. This changing color aids the crabo to disguise itself in a scheme to fool a cave spawning catfish (Kampango). While the fish is yellow and black (bumble bee) the catfish appreciates the crabro in eating the parasites off of its skin, not recognizing the same fish latter (black) as it steals its eggs. The black color camouflages this creative, opportunistic omnivore in the dark cave where the catfish spawns. This omnivore does well with the Red Zebra Stampede or Ultracolor Fish Food augmented with Hippocampus Green to provide the spirulina and plant material so vital for mbuna health. They appreciate the addition of a quality aquarium or Cichlid Salt at the rate of 1 teaspoon per gallon of water. This fish is commonly found in the Standard mix on this site.
