This is a new fish and looks similar to the inkfin calvus but with more sparkles when it hits the light ..
Altolamprologous calvus Kipili Zebra is a mildly aggressive substrate spawner that is a small fry predator. The calvus also feeds on insect larvae and small crustaceans. Their specialized laterally compressed mouth allows them access to small narrow crevices in the rocks. There are many varieties of black calvus the one pictured here is a wild caught ink fin. They thrive on Our All Purpose Formula in the aquarium. They appreciate the addition of a quality aquarium or Cichlid Salt at the rate of 1 teaspoon per gallon of water.
We have fed our calvus the current All Purpose Fish Food Formula in our Florida Facility for over a year. Our cichlids are noticeably more active, grow quicker, have improved color, and we have all but eliminated bloat in even the most sensitive species, including tropheus. We have fed it to new world and African cichlids, assorted livebearers, Discus, loaches, catfish, Danios, Tetras, Australian Rainbows, and virtually any fish that will eat a prepared food.

Most cichlids sold in pet stores are 2 -2.5 inches in size. Our fish are sold smaller because of the demand for these fish and because they ship better at smaller sizes. Our customers have accepted this due to the rarity of the fish offered on our website compared to many of the retail stores. These fish grow so fast, the initial size is less relevant to the quality of genetics and rarity of species. Our regular sized fish will measure between the width of a quarter and the width of a $.50 cent piece. The dynamics of the size is manifested when you know that a 2 inch fish will appear to be 3-4 times the mass of a 1.25 inch fish, since it is not just longer but deeper and thicker and the color is often more robust.
It is important to understand that we sell high quality Tanganyika cichlids mostly from Wild collected breeding stock. These fish are often small because of the high demand for their species. Please remember small fish will grow fast but fish of line bred or hybrids will never be great fish no matter how much the grow. We sell genetics over size here a Bluegrass Aquatics but do promise to send you the largest fish available for the size category you ordered.
